Played any pieces from 8notes?
Recorded them?
Now you can add them to the site - just click the mp3 tag on the score page and follow the instructions.
To celebrate we'll be giving away a one-year subscription to 8notes.com to three lucky winners.
The winners will not necessarily the most polished performance (we're all here to learn after all), but the best combination of description and recording - in other words make the description interesting when you add your recording!
The competition is open till the end of September and we'll announce the winners in October.
If you're not sure about how to make a recording in mp3 format we can recommend http://www.goldwave.com (windows only) which has excellent recording software which is free to try out. You can record and save straight into mp3 which makes the whole thing very straight forward.

Add your Instrument to your profile

You can now select the instrument(s) you play and add them to your profile. This will allow you to more quickly find and chat with others with a similar interest as other members who play the same instruments as you will appear on your profile page.
To add an instrument click edit instruments on the left hand side of your account page.
Make some friends

You now make each other your friends using the "Add as friend" link no the profile page. Your friends list will then appear on your profile page.
I'd be very grateful if someone could add a friend (can be me!) to check the system is working properly.

Composer Tunes Database

You can now browse our unique tunes database for classical composers. Each tune is playable, making it quick to browse and find a particular piece. A link to the score on 8notes is shown where available.
To browse the database go to the composer page (eg http://www.8notes.com/beethoven) and click the tunes link on the right
New Look for Profiles

Your 8notes profile pages have been given a lick of paint. Part of the reason for the change is to better display music and scores that people have uploaded. We'll be introducing a new section for members audio files shortly, and this is a first step towards that. You can see a few examples of members who have already uploaded audio content here:

Add your own sheet music to 8notes!

We're introducting a new feature today, allowing users to add their own scores, midi files and even mp3s to 8notes.com.
The new service should be useful if:
- you are a composer
- you have arranged pieces for your group
- you have written out or scanned in a non-copyright piece of music
If would like to post your scores for others to enjoy, this is a great new way to do it.
The service is very much still in beta, and once users have added more content we hope to integrate members files much more with the main site. We'll be adding a link to members files on each of the main instrument pages as a starting point, and creating a new compositions section.
To get started you need to be registered with 8notes (free). Once you are logged in to your account, click "My Music" and follow the instructions. We allow files to be uploaded in the following formats:
gif
Sibelius scorch (NB versions 2 or 3 only)
midi
mp3
We hope to start new general sections for midi files and mp3 recordings if there's enough interest.
Finally, please remember that we have to operate within copyright law, so any files uploaded will be subject to approval by an adminstrator. Any files that are in-copyright, such as scanned versions of popular music will be rejected.

We already have a popular Guitar Tuner, well now we've added tuners for Violin, Viola and Cello
All are accessible via the instrument home page.
New Forum homepage layout

We've changed the layout on the forum homepage, doing away with the 'recent posts' list and instead offering easy links to the sub-categories in the forum.
The forum as a whole seems to be developing into a number of quite distinct sub-forums with each sticking by and large to their own section, so it seemed to make sense to cut out the scroll down to find your own forum and just present a list of categories on the home page.
Any thoughts and suggestions welcomed.
New Journals

We've added a new feature to the site today: 'Journals'.
Journals can be found on the navigation tabs for each piece on 8notes and allow you to post their thoughts, comments, memories etc in relation to that piece.
