I don't understand this plugging the embouchure hole bit. It seems to me that it would prevent the head operating as it normally does, and invalidate any comparison you were trying to make. Could you elaborate? I do agree with the tin Mura/gold Bundy thing, though.

It was intended to be a bit humourous, but if you cover the embouchure hole and blow across the bottom to get the headjoint to sound, you've taken away the embouchure cut in your comparison of timbre. It will be a comparison of a gold versus silver tube.

Although thinking about it now, some heads have different tapers and lengths so if one introduces a Bundy head in this scenario it could come out on top.

True, very true! I like having a nice instrument, but I still sound like me on just about any flute I pick up.

Patrick has to be right...I mean, who cares about long words...if you yell something loud enough you are ALWAYS right! Hey, I made All-State on a crappy Bundy (nickel-plated at that!) flute. I beat out others playing on pro Yammies, and things WAY WAY WAY out of my price range. Goes to show you, if you suck...save your parents some money! Then save yourself some embarrassment! Then again, have your parents donate that money they were going to use on your flute to those of us that cannot afford the flutes that we really deserve and need! Thank you!

Yeah for Bundys!! I got really far on mine too. I like the way you think. Great post! You need to start a flute for Dennis fund. I have a quarter to my name I can contribute. Lol!

I started off on a Gemmy and still think they are the best beginner flutes on the market today. Yamaha runs out of tune and well, um, bundy, no comment.

I honestly have never seen a Geimenhardt that I like, but that might be due to the fact that they don't seem to be sold here so all we ever see are the rubbish 50 year old ones. Also I don't see how a yamaha can run out of tune. It's surely either in tune or not.
