Hey everyone I just got the news that piccolo tryouts for next year are on Monday! and The problem is that I dont know the song that my section leader picked but she said that its not from the show this year(back in black,Layla,Free Bird,Slow Ride.) and its something we know... I have over 400 pieces of music in my book and its kinda hard to figure out the one we are going to tryout to on Monday! what can i do to get the part right and and how in the world do i practice for tryouts with all that music to choose from! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!
If you know it, you should know it well enough that you won't need to practice much to get it back up to par. Don't worry about it, and just keep practicing your tone/technique exercises on picc. I assume by the sheer number of pieces in your "book" that you are counting all the band/other ensemble music you've played before, in which case the vast majority is probably not very challenging, so why freak out over playing something you already know you can play?
You have all weekend! Play long tones, scales, arppegios. Play through ALL your music. Go to the library on Sat and chek out a bunch of books and sight read through everything!
Spend SOME time with a metronome. On and off. Helps keep you from speeding up or slowing down like mad.
If you get nervous, no worries. Just have fun. Once you put your foot forward enough times the nerves go away somewhat.
Thanks guys! I played all the music in my book tonight! and I will play it tomorrow to!
I just get nervous! I think that I know why I am so nervous it that I thought that piccolo tryouts were next year and just think that has somthing to do with it! The only reason that we are having tryouts is bc there is this 7th Grader went and bought a picc knowing that she couldnt play untill the 9th or 10th and There are 2 picc players and then there is Me, this kid brock ( that plays a million insturments!) that wants to play picc next year and we play in class for practice and the 7th grader is jelous that we are playing in class and she isnt
allowed!
No, simply put they are junk. Summer is absolutely right. If you want to play picc well, don't bbuy one of those unless you are going to turn it into a lamp.
I had a blue piccolo and it, well, died within a couple of months. Luckily, my parents bought me a new one that's not colored.
My advice: no colored instruments.
Thanks guys for all the support! Tomorrow are the tryouts and I will try my best!and I'll tell you what happened! I played all the music that I have 4 times ! so, I dont know what is going to go on tomorrow!
