I am wondering if any of you have ever played a haynes schwelm flute. Someone posted on here last year that their wife bought one.
If you have played one, what do you think of it compared to a student yamaha or armstrong or gameinhardt?

One of my flutes is apparently a very unusual Haynes-Schwelm flute. It is sterling silver throughout and has soldered keys, so it is clearly not a typical Haynes-Schwelm student model. It is a closed-hole model with C foot and offset G.
The serial number is 8597. I bought it used in the mid-1970s (not in an original case), so I really have no idea of its history. But it plays extremely well.

I've played on a Haynes Schwelm and thought it was decent but the keys looked like Artley keys to me. Here's a video slideshow of my friend playing his Haynes Schwelm I fixed for him. Pardon the sound quality as I took it with a junker Casio Exilim (EX-S600) via audio recorder built into the camera:

As for the soldered tonehole model, I believe (as most others would) that the soldered tonehole model would be more of a Haynes-Schwelm attempt at a more advanced/professional flute. There was one recently on eBay that slipped out of my greedy paws, quite unfortunately, but not like I NEEDED one of those anyhow! =)
As for some company background/history, I have the following courtesy of the Langwill Index:
Haynes-Schwelm: Woodwind Instrument Manufacturers in Boston from 1921-1950
In 1921, Haynes-Schwelm was established by William Winthrop Haynes (the 4th Haynes in the musical instrument manufacturing industry) and Schwelm as 'The Haynes Schwelm Co.'. In 1923, Schwelm quit but they continued to use the name. In 1928, The Haynes Schwelm Co. started making wooden and metal double-walled clarinets in Providence, Rhode Island.
In regards to DOM (date of manufacture), here's a minor tidbit based on address (if they're stamped with address, I have no idea!):
1921-1928: 41 Poplar Street
1929: 791 Fremont (Chickering Building)
1930-1959: 4196 Washington Street
Gosh, did I just ramble again? *scrambles off to bed*
