So I was supposed to get my wisdom teeth out months ago- but due to concerts, performances, etc. I have been putting it off. And it's starting to hurt a little when I play (although playing is more important to me...) Just wondering if anyone's been in this situation- because I really don't want this to affect upcoming auditions and performances.
The recovery time depends on the age of the person usually. Last year when I was 15, I had mine taken out. The first day after, my lips were still numb. No playing. The second day after, I could feel my lips. I tried playing my clarinet (my main inst.) and it hurt like crazy. It was sorta ok to play my flute. The third day after I didn't have any problems with playing either instrument. Good luck!
I got mine out two days ago. I haven't been able to practice yet but the recovery so far isn't horrible. I'll try and post again as soon as I'm able to play.
I've been easing gently back into fluting after getting my wisdoms out. It's not painful, it's just very uncomfortable. The most depressing part is that your embouchure goes to hell in a handbasket after not being able to play for a few days.
Good luck, and remember to take things easy when you get yours out. It's no use rushing things only to end up with a complication that makes your recovery take longer.
alot of people have to get them taken out, mostly because the grow in strange places. but i got braces on (same kinda pain i guess) and it was fine till they got tightened last (made me feel sick when i ate) and it takes a couple days to adjust when something changes but then eerything is fine and back to normal.
I had my upper two taken out by a dentist. He told me the lower two were impacted and would have to extracted by a dental surgeon at a considerably higher cost. If I didn't have them removed I'd have all sorts of problems with my jaw, he said.
I put off the operation, then put it off some more. A quarter century has now gone by; my lower impacted wisdom teeth are still in place; and I've had no problem with them whatsoever.
