Hi
I'm new and haven't done my profile properly, but will ...
meanwhile does anyone have any ideas for a Flute solo with Concert Band? I would quite like to find the Gluck Dance of the Blessed Spirits, but can only find a flute + piano version.
I play alto sax in my concert band, but as I am a flautist first and foremost I'm itching to do a solo, and our flute players are rubbish (sorry girls)
Looking forward to suggestions!

Hey I was in the same situation- I used to play tenor for a jazz band- but am definitely first a flute player. As far as solos go (and I don't know what the level of your band is) I'm playing the flute solo from Beethoven's seventh symphony, movement two right now for an audition. It's quite nice- it is scored for a full symphony orchestra- but I'm sure there's a wind ensemble arrangement out there. What kind/level of solo are you looking for?

That sounds interesting - the band can play anything even the flutes are ok but they seem to have cotton wool stuffed down them, we are a "mature" band to say the least!

I completely understand... I played in two groups this previous year, both my school's top wind ensemble and their concert. And the concert band flutes were pretty much the same way! But they're still young. I don't think our group played many pieces with many flute solos though this past year.... Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony- the final movement I believe- has a nice flute spot in it.

You can find the flute + "school ensemble" here: http://www.musicroom.com/es-ES/se/ID_No/0421161/details.html

Do not expect to get anything over flute + piano for free. But these scores are cheap. I am not sure what a "school ensemble" is, probably a string quartet + flute. With some additional work you could use the piano score + the "school ensemble" to build a more complex accompaniment

Musicroom is a standard site in English, but as I have purchased things there before, the server decided to display the page in Spanish (probably due to my PC Locals). You will not have much difficulties in accessing their English site.

I think I have a midi/mp3 of this piece for flute +piano and the piano acc. alone, that I did for my own study. Let me know in case you could find it useful to practise playing along wit it.

As you see, I neither know either what a "Concert band" is. Most probably a wind ensemble, so if the school ensemble is strings, it is not what you are looking for. Still, you could transpose (if necessary) the string quartet to fit some winds in your band

Here's a comprehensive list: http://www.larrykrantz.com/withband.htm

Not all are readily available, though.

Good luck!
