i have been using a rico royal reed the past couple of days (i just started playing and its whats cheapest in the music shop) but i have found some rico grand concert reeds on the internet cheaper then the royal ones i have been using so whats the differance??
I've tried ricos, grand concerts and vandorens. I suggest buy a few reeds of different strengths and brands, to see which you like best. It can take up to a month to break in a reed well! Personally I like vancorens best, and I use 3s.

well the thinkness would be slightly diffrent...
like I know that Vendoren traditional 3 would be a 3 how ever Vendoren Java would be 3.5 or something? Its same with most reeds.. Find a reed chat thingy.. like this one..http://www.reedsandmore.com.au/comparison_chart.pdf
thanks i have/am tring differant reeds i have some vandoren ones in strength 2 and 2 1/2 ad more rico royals in 2, 2 1/2, and 3. but i dont like the vandoren ones right now, but i am going to use it for a little bit longer untill its brocken in and then make a proper judgement later
the difference in reed brands is also determined by the distribution of the cane the reed is made of. I used to use vandoren until I found Vandoren V12's, which I love. The description they give on the vandoren website says that in the V12's the cane is more evenly distributed to create a better, even sound quality. you'll have to do some research and see which brand you like the best
I have ben playing for 1 1/2 yrs. Only now am I appreciating the difference in reed tones. So I am now using Vandoran 2's. I have tried

My prefs are 1. Vandoran, 2. La Voz. 3. Rico Res.
