I think that guy is just really really stupid, or we`re BOTH ignorant to some very rare and strange mouthpiece-ridden oboe. Strange.

Yeah, I think this guy must be mistaken. But, people have experimented with single reeds on an oboe. Check it out.

Lol, *phew* I thought maybe I`d just been living in a cave...after all oboes are known for/as `double reeds`

Wow, weird link......I do have an eBay sn. Maybe I`ll email him the link and ask if that`s what he`s talking about. Seems he`s giving these thing away at a buck if it`s so rare...

HellO!

I *finally* got an email back from the eBay guy! He said yes, that`s the kind of reed you would use with those mouth pieces. And I though we would be double reeds forever!!!!!

Well....
Maybe, if those reeds and mouth pieces actually work, those would be the kinds of things you could use to march with an oboe. (which would save the strain of learning other instruments.) That would be pretty cool. Is the guy just selling the reeds, the mouthpiece, or both?? B/c it seems as if that would be a good thing to invest in if you realy COULD march with them.

PEACE oboe folk!

LOL my teacher has one of those mouthpieces. It is really really neat! We have never played it though because it is so old. Otherwise it is one of the neatest thigns i have ever seen. It looks exactly like a small clarinet mouth piece with cork on the bottom. The reed is just tied on with thread. If i can get a pic. I will try

Here are a couple of pics of a single reed oboe mouthpiece I have... I`m not an oboe player, but I`m into strange instruments, and I saw this at a flea market years ago.

NEVER! no such thing as the single reed. The earliest reed was a french style reed where the tip was roughly finished and a lot of cane was taken from the heart and it was loud and squaky. Hope this helps!

The only reason these are made are for stupid saxophone players who double on the oboe. . I wouldn`t reccomend using one.

I always liked the jazz that a good saxophone player could play , but i don`t play saxophone because i have better talent at oboe . So...i was wondering if there was some way to get that cool sound....?

I`m not an oboe player, but hope to be soon. However, i do know that there are many great jazz oboe players, one of which is the French Jean-Luc Fillon --> www.jeanlucfillon.com, on his website you can listen to him playiong his own jazz compositions, so enjoy!

God bless!
