Alright, so I decided what student oboe I want to get to replace the one we're borrowing from friends...
There's one problem, though, and that's that I can't find a used Yamaha 241.
I found ONE, but don't really trust it:
http://oswego-illinois.olx.com/yamaha-yob-241-oboe-850-iid-9749190
Seems kinda cheap and with no pictures and not must description up...
Usedoboes.com doesn't have a 241; the other option I could get would be a Selmer 1492, but I'd rather get the Y0B241.
mmimports.com has a 241, but it's new.
Anyone know where I could get a good used one?

Happened to see your request as I was "researching" the 241 as a possible upgrade for my 12 year old daughter. She doesn't seem to have interest in this, so I thought I'd pass it on to you. It just got posted on Craigslist and is in Gainesville, FL. Sounds like a very good price ... $600 OBO, 6 months old.
Good Luck.

have you considered the buffet crampon 4012, they are around the same price new, si I imagine used they'd also be alike...
also, it would appear the buffet would perhaps sound better than the yamaha!
if it were me, I would buy a fox or loree...

Thanks for suggesting that...
however I've been told about a billion times not to get wood because of the humidity and heat where I live.
<Added>
do y'all think that it would be safe to order it from somewhere other than a place like usedoboes.com? Cuz I trust usedoboes, but getting it from some random person could end up somewhat of a scam.

Although a used loree would be very nice, I'm pretty sure it would be out of your price range.
Stick with the YOB241. It's a great instrument, and pretty cheap too ($2,000 new?)
Later on get a used or new loree. They cost a lot, but it's so worth it. ($8,000 new to $3,000 used)

Yeah, even used a Loree is a bit pricey for right now; and me just being a student having had about 9 months on the oboe and just private lessons, no band, etc... a Yamaha is fine for now.

... I can't really find a YOB241 from a trusted site...
Anyone know anything about the YOB211?

211 is worse than a Selmer. Bad bore. Extremely resistant.
The 241 is supposed to have the same bore as upper Yamaha models. Though it's quite a bit overpriced for an oboe lacking a left hand F.

ok... I think this will be my last set of questions...
- Selmer 121?
- Yamaha 410?
- Fox 330?

I have an older semi-pro (or pro?) wooden French oboe w/ low Bb, banana key, ring D key and some other keys I don't know much about (doesn't have LH F) that I'm asking $550 for... It plays well but needs cork adjustments (should only be about $10 or so repair). PM me for pics or more info.

Sorry, not quite my last set...
Does anyone know anything about Lucerne, Lym, Mirafone or LaMarque?
