Whats a good brand of Oboe? I am currently using school owned Larilee, but I'm looking for a good brand that I can buy. Word on the street is that Lorees are good instruments... I want to hear some peoples opinions and expriences with brands of oboes.
Thanks

Quick answer to your question in no particular order here's a selection of the better makers there are others - some really high end only workshops to cheap items only suitable as table lamps - Loree who also make the more affordable Cabart, Rigoutat, Marigaux, Fossati, Laubin, Covey, Howarth, Puchner, Bulgheroni, Yamaha, Buffet, Fox, Patricola. Some only make top line ones others offer a range from student to pro. I'm sure you'll find something you like from these which are all respected brands.
Happy hunting!

If the oboe has all of the keys necessary (ex. left f, low Bb, Bb resonance, banana key, etc.) then it is mostly personal preference. A lot of people in the U.S. prefer Loree for some reason, but that is not the only major brand out there. Fossati and Marigaux are both well-known brands themselves. Covey oboes also makes good instruments.

I myself use a Rigoutat. I had also tried a Fox though, and it was pretty nice. I got mine through Nora post, she's wonderful.

What's the price range and are you looking for a new one or a used one? lol
I have a Bulgheroni oboe with a beautiful tone (I've won many awards with it) but I'm selling it cause I'm going into English horn now.
If your interested, let me know
