I am about to close a great deal on a Marigaux 2001, it`s quite expensive but I`d like to know if I`ts as good as they say it is

There`s no way to know without knowing more about the instrument and playing it in person. Beware of the "great deal"--unless you`ve had a professional like your oboe teacher or a local double reed shop play it for you and look it over fully, you may be getting ripped off.

I play a marigaux 2001 and am very happy with it. The intonation is very good and it tends to cut through the Orchestral texture really well. I have had problems feeling like I don`t carry very well but apparently it does in the concert hall. Some things are an improvement on the older model but some things I prefer on the 901 model. It also depends what school of playing too I guess, because I`ve yet to come across an American who plays Marigaux. If you want more specific details you can email me.
