i've recently inherited a beautiful Oscar Adler Bassoon. I am writing to ask if there is a way to identify which model it is. The only writing on it says "Oscar Adler & Co, markneukirchen" and "made in GDR". It is approx 133cm tall when assembled and as far as I can see it has 24 keys.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rob.
It's probably a 1357. (I don't know if model numbers have changed over the years for similar instruments) If you ask Adler, giving them the serial number, they will be able to tell you. www.moennig-adler.de. To find the serial number you need to remove the cap from the bottom of the butt joint & you will find it stamped on the brass ring.
also, when you look for the serial number, it would be a good idea to check if there are any dents in the brass ring too. If there are, it can make the bassoon off tune, so it would increase the value of the bassoon (and playability) if yu fix it. You said the bassoon was beautiful, so I doubt there are any dents (forgive me if I am talking to a seasoned bassoonist/ someone who isn't planning to sell or play the bassoon/etc)
