Ok, so we all know you can't march a bassoon (successfully). I play bari sax. I know another kid who did flute and one to did timpani in the front ensemble. What have you seen done most often and what would you recomend?
Well, I hope you realize the danger of marching with a Bassoon. I personally have never been fond of the whole "hitting the person in front of you accidentally and having the reed shoved right to the back of your throat" trick.
@MercifulMe Of course I know the danger, and would never take a multi-thousand dollar (euro for contra448) instrument on the field. What I'm asking is what do people do instead for marching band?
Actually, I saw one of the top marching bands in the country use a bassoon player in their field show last year. I mean, he didn't march, but he DID get a solo at the beginning of the first movement, along with an oboe player.
Is there a video of the Marian Catholic High School performance? I put it in you tube and don't know which one to choose for the bassoon oboe duet show.
in our school, the bassoonist marches with a bass clarinet and plays the piccolo in the stands...the only thing is you gotta know how to read treble clef for piccolo and bass clarinet
It was 2008. I believe the theme was the Cosmos, or creation of man. You won't find it on Youtube as they have removed all BOA vids from 2005 onward. Your best bet is google video.
They still sell the '05 onward DVDs so in order to profit they've removed the videos. However many are still on google video and other sites which are much harder to control.
