I have started playing bassoon again after many years and current play on a Huller with a beautiful tone. However the looks of the instrument are less and need working. However before going there I'd like to find out the age and origin of the instrument. Can anyone help trace the age using the serial number : 48487 ?
Thanks

Huller is one of those woodwind-making companies who went out of business after World War II. I think the last bassoon serial numbers ended with the 54000 numbers, but there are a number of bassoon repairmen out there who have worked on Hullers and might have more of an idea to help you. One of them can be found by googling around on the Clarinet Bulletin Board and inputting Huller into your search. Good luck.

Huller closed in 1991.

On checking my records I have worked on various in the 50,000s & also 31715 (I think it was this one), which had some original paperwork from Huller dated 1977. So yours would probably be sometime during the mid 1980s.
