Dave,
Think of it in these terms. Cars. You could drive a Honda Civic, which is mass-produced by machines in large quantities, with numerous compromises in manufacturing to keep the prices reasonable. They are also designed, at least in theory, for inexpensive manufacturing, durability and easy production. This would be the equivalent to buying inexpensive Trumpet.

Buying an expensive professional trumpet would be the equivalent of driving a BMW our Mercedes Benz that is in every way superior toa Honda Civic.

Its fine to have a beginning level trumpet if you are just starting to play. But as you get better it would be a good Idea to get yourself a professional trumpet, because the a beginners trumpet well just hold you back.

it absolutely makes a difference but if you`re just starting out you won`t be able to notice. the big difference a pro model makes is that it`s more in tune with itself, the back-pressure is more consistent and it`s usually easier to play with more responsive valves.

I`m new to trumpet, and I would like to know what`s the difference between a professional trumpet and a student/beginner trumpet?

The main difference is the quality of the horns.

The pro horns will last longer and will have less problems with valves getting stuck.

If you`re new to the trumpet then the student model should be good but after you start playing good you would want to switch to pro model.

Pro horns tend to have hand-hammered one piece bells. That means that a single sheet of brass is soldered together and formed into the bell shape. This takes more time and effort than a machine-made two piece bell. Also, the annealing process of the metal leaves pro horns slightly softer. They are more prone to damage, but have a better tone. The finish on most pro horns is silver, which projects much better than lacquer along with having more overtones.

Don`t ever take the reccomendation to get a horn from a single manufacturer. Try as many horns as possible, and buy the horn you like best, not the brand you like best. If you have a Bach that your grandfather bought when he was a kid, you are very lucky. Bach`s were some of the best horns around then. These days, most of them are garbage. Every now and then a good one comes along, but for the most part they suck.
