We all know the that trumpet holds many stereotypes against itself, and the person who plays it. I just wanted to hear what stereotypes you all have heard, and which of those you consider hold some actual truth..and why. I'll start by taking the most popular one. "Trumpet players are arrogant people and always think that they are the most important/best part of any band" as said by pretty much any other musician. I think this claim has some validation in that I have known many self-loving trumpeters, but I have also known very humble players. I also believe that, at times, our instrument demands some strength and self-confidence that other instruments don't because of musical positioning, exposure, and required attitude. Some trumpet players are arrogant...and some need to be...we just need to not overdo it guys. And that's the first and most obvious one.

Well, I've always known the trumpet section to be the loudest not only in sound but also in speaking. They tend to be the ones that talk the most trash and then can't back it up. This is true for the trumpet players in my band. There are only three girls out of about 17 trumpet players and they seem to be the ones pulling the section. I love to hear good trumpet, but I don't like for the person to negate their talent due to the fact that they are an arrogant, self-absorbed butt-head. I've never really known the trumpets to get along with any other section. Percussion maybe...

I've heard that trumpet players have big heads. For some of you that means that they brag and are arrogant but I think it's well earned.
List of Facts:
1. Our instrument is very hard to play well.
2. The lead trumpet in jazz band is basically the lead of the entire band.
3. We need to be arrogant to pump up the rest of the sections to try to do better than us and also to pump up our own guys.
Happy "Arrogant" Trumpeting!

The best one (and it's been around for many moons) is that trumpet players are the BEST kissers!
Years ago they interviewed Doc Severenson's wife, Dizzy Gillespie's wife, Louis Armstrong's, Mike Vax's and a slew of others - the ladies ALL AGREED!!! They would rather kiss a trumpet player than ANYONE else!
By the way - it's only arrogance if it's unfounded, right peeps? Otherwise, it's having an accute sense of one's true ability and worth - like most of us that grace the world with the poetry of our pipes. (Only jesting a wee bit).

I've found the stereotype about good kissing is true because all of the ex-girlfriends tell me that. Anyways, I think that everyone says I have a big head, but don't trumpeters ned to because we are THE VOICE OF THE BAND, is that not accurate? (Drummers, dont reply. lol)

I dont play trumpet, but I have heard they are usually short, short-tempered, and show offs. To me, any musician can have those traits, its not the instrument, its the player.
