Yes, I agree, but without the woodwinds, the band is incomplete, and some of the technical stuff just works better with an oboe, bassoon, or flute doing it.
Now, if you're talking about awesomeness rather than overall usefulness, brass kicks butt. Both instrument classes are needed equally.

More like sucks a$$
You were vague when you said ensemble (and spelled it wrong) if it is a big band ensemble, or a chamber ensemble either can have varying importance depending on the group In the orchestra area, both are really needed, except often oboe, etc. have more fun parts. What about the bassoon? It is a woodwind that usually plays a bass part.
Again, both sections are needed equally, just in different ways. However, I'm not going to hide the fact that I think brass sounds so much cooler and is more powerful than woodwinds by an exponential amount.
Btw, I liked your comment about the rainforest, Toptrump04! Hilarious.
cool you made my confidence comback yes you do need both wood winds and brass to have a complete sound but its no contest as far as superiority in sound its the awsome factor please dont kill trees play brass instead lol
i'd go with woodwind cuse i play the 2 most awesome wind intrumnet but the brass senction it pretty important (you can't do the starwars imperial march without trumpets) it the way of sound i like wood wind better, but with the awesomnous of parts some credit has to go to the brass. so they are equally kickbutt, but in differant ways.
