Hello - first post at this forum.

After a loooong layoff I'm interested in playing again. I got rid of my old ('67) Silver Flair years ago among others and only horn I've kept is the old King Silvertone that my parents bought for me back in the early '60s.

The serial number shows it was made around 1939 and the bell has the Art Deco engraving which is simply beautiful. I'm wondering how to determine the bore of this horn. Also, the tuning slide is different than most as it is a two piece slide and a friend suggested that perhaps if I remove the inside portion it would change the horn from Bflat to something else - anyone knowing more about this two piece slide and other characteristics would help me a lot if they could share their information with me.

I've got a chance to buy another Silver Flair from the late 60s for $750 or so and I always enjoyed the Flair I once owned but if the Silvertone is a comparable trumpet then I won't spend the money for another Silver Flair.

All info, help and suggestions will be very sincerely appreciated.
Thanks
Jimmy
