Hi all,
I need help on choosing a mouthpiece. I just started playing the trumpet a couple of months ago, and am using a King 7C mouthpiece (it came with the trumpet) However, I have really thick lips, and I have a really hard time playing lower notes. Any suggestions on which mouthpiece I should get?
Also, I`m not sure if I should change mouthpiece, because I`m quite new to trumpet, and I heard that if you`re new you should stick to the standard ie. the 7C.
Please help me! Thanks!!

i`m on my fourth year of playing(a freshman in highschool) and i play on a bach 3c megatone. i use to play on a 7c until i figured out that it wasnt good for my big lips, so i changed to a 3c...which is the same cup depth as the 7c but has a larger rim and thus is more comfortable for me. My private lesson teacher said that which larger rims( 3c, 1c, etc) you get better tone. i picked a megatone because i had twenty extra bucks and thought it looked neat. however after i bought it i realized that it had an enlargened throat, which i like because it gave me a large open tone. hoped i helped also, bach has a good website that explains all their mouthpieces and who should use them.

Thanks a lot! I`ll definitely check out the Bach website.

I have one more question for you, do your lips touch the cup when you blow into it? Because when I`m playing low notes, I do touch the cup.

Hi Doug,
Just want to say thanks for your help. I bought a Schilke #14 mouthpiece today, which is equal to a Bach 3C. It is amazing, now I can play the lower notes, and it has a fuller sound I think. The Schilke has a rounder rim, then my King and Bach mouthpieces, it`s very comfortable and I highly recommend it. So thanx!
