On my 7c mouthpiece i`ve been playing on for a few years, i can usually only go up to a high C above the staff. My friend can go just about as high with his 7c, but one of the trumpeters at our school let him use his 5c and he could play up to e`s and g`s with it. I decided to go get a 3c... But for some reason I can`t play as high with my 3c as I can with my old 7c. It`s not the mouthpiece, everyone who plays a 7c that I let use my 3c has been able to play higher with it.

I don`t know what the problem is, I can play higher with my 7c and get better tone. Is it possible that I am just used to the 7c and not able to use the 3c right yet? I seem to be the only one at my school who doesn`t get results from a smaller mouthpiece.

Thanks!

hey
well, i have been using a 7c for a few years also, and i bought a 3c in november. I see what ur saying. My band teacher says, it`s because your use to a 7c, that it takes awhile to get use to the 3c. That just to practice your scales and long tones, and ull be fine.It can also be of how ur lips are.

well, it could be one of 2 things that i know of. 1) You still need to practice more, u probly didnt adjust to it yet. 2) The 3c is a larger cup size, which could be that your lips are small, and use to a small cup. If you go to a music store like Victors House of music(i like the best) they will help you pick one out that fits you. They say the only way to have a mouthpeice that works just perfect for you, is to actually get it custom made. Everybody has diff lips, like.. thin, big, small, etc...,
hoped i helped you!

I have pretty big lips so I get awful tone on a small shallow mouthpeiice I`m a freshman in high school and I play on a bach megatone 1-1/4c wich is huge I get awsome tone but me range was hurt slightly it could be that the mouthpeice you got has a better feel and just the right resistance for the other players and by the way smaller # means bigger cup the best way to get awsome tone and not hurt your range is to get a v shaped cup but thats my opinion it doesn`t work for everyone and it takes alot of endurance. you could go get one fit to your preferences and who knows there may be a stock mouthpeice simmiler to your preference or if you have the money you could get a custom mouthpeice but I wouldn`t recomend it untill you`ve been playing for a while and developed your distinctive style and preferences. try the megatones though they have em in alot of sizes and it gives you awsome tone and it helps projection. if you don`t like the megatone you don`t have to get it but every one I know loves it and they sound great.
