I`ve just starting trying to play a xaphoon (see http://www.xaphoon.com for information) today. It`s a pretty basic reed instrument - it uses a tenor sax reed. Here`s the thing - do any of your reed players get really sore bottom lips after a while of playing? With my teeth digging in on that bottom lip the whole time, it gets a little sore after just a few songs. Any tips?

Anyone?

I play clarinet and alto sax and I had the same problem. I don`t think there is much you can do but you will get used to it and it won`t bother you anymore.

It`s the same as playing guitar, your fingers really hurt for a while but you get used to it.

When your lip starts to get sore, stop playing and play after about 15 mins.
