Not to show off... well, yes, absolutely to show off, but anyway, I just got accepted to university (The Queensland Conservatorium of Music)to study composition, and got a job at a music tutoring place teaching the clarinet. I am so happy.

Treasure it if this is what God has in store for you! It`s one thing to be a Musician, but certainly ABOVE ALL THINGS to be a TEACHER!

Sometimes. When kids forget their instruments or don`t bother practicing it can be very frustrating. But it is also incredibly rewarding. When one of your students wins a competition or passes an exam, the thought that you helped them to do it is amazing. Also when they buy you gifts to say thanks, that`s good too. Plus, you`re doing the thing that you love most in the world (in my case, anyway) and you`re getting paid for it!
If you`re a goo musician and you`re a fairly patient person, you should make a good teacher. If it`s what you want to do with your life, go for it!

Teaching can be difficult if the students won`t put the work in, and it can be frustrating when a student is obviously trying and still having trouble with something.
I`ve been teaching the clarinet privately for almost 2 years now (I only have one student; that`s why I applied for the job I have now), and I have never regretted starting teaching- it is very rewarding.
I think I`d like a career in performing, teaching and composing.

Yeah, it is cool when they buy you presents. My student has got me presents for Easter, my birthday and Christmas.
It is also an amazing feeling to know that you are important and making a difference in someones life. My student says that playing the clarinet is the only thing she does for herself.
Teaching is also fun (like anything to do with music), and if I can get paid for having fun, that`s great.

I just finished writing my 3rd clarinet concerto yesterday.
I am really happy with it- it is one of my two best pieces. (The other one is my Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, composed early this year.)
The pieces cover completely different emotional territory- the concerto is a very optimistic work, while the Trio was written while I was still VERY unhappy about not being at the Conservatorium, and it reflects that.
But anyway, I am really pleased with the concerto.

Rachel! I would loooove to hear your clarinet concerto and/or trio!!! Can you send a recording somehow?

Well, there is only a MIDI file, not a recording. I`ll try and send it to you, but it might be too big to send as an attachment.
