Bach Stradivarius, Model 42, Traditional F rotory trigger. I play for a school band, which is at least LUCKY enough to own stradivariuses. But i think stradivariuses are mass productions and meant for concert bands. I would buy a Conn for personal use.

True about the strad, it is really an orchestral sound, conns are my favorite for a good crossover horn.

I play a conn 88HTO, works GREAT!!! I love it because the metal is not heavy and dense like the bacjs or yamahas. With the light metal, it will produce a bright resiliant sound. I also use a Bach 5G mouthpiece, greta for the high range (b-flay 8 ledger lines above the bas clef staff ( i think) and then double-pedal b-flat. GO CONN!

I got a brand spanking new trombone the other week, its a King 2B, the Jiggs Whigham model. I did loads of research into different brands/sizes etc before splashing on a professional `bone, and this is definitely THE trombone to use if you`re going to do much jazz/lead solo work. it also has a pretty funky looking mouthpiece too!

For my large bore work I use a 1968 Olds Opera .547 bore with a Schilke 51 Mouthpiece.

For Jazz I use a Bach 16LTM with a Schilke 50 for section work and a Bach 7C for lead.

Both horns are equipped with a ToneLure Adjustable Tone Dampening Bar on the outter slide tubes.

Also, I am currently overhauling a King 3B to use for Jazz. After I try it out, either it or the Bach goes.

I play on an old Regent by The Ohio Band Instrument Company. I like it! Serial number 10372. I think that means its pretty old.

I recently bought a brand new Conn-88HO and I love it...When I`m older, assuming that I`ll still be playing, do you think it will be possible to get hold of a real ELkhart Conn Trombone...how hard are they to find now? If I plan on getting one in the future, do I need to be looking now as a student because they`re going to become harder to find?

The old Elkhart models can still be found, but the condition of most of them is less than favorable.

I have owned Elkart models in the past and have played on some of the new 88H`s. Frankly, unless if it is for nostalgia the new ones play better.

There are not many of the Large Bore Olds Opera`s left out there. There are some very good players still using them.

I highly recommend that you try a Schilke 51 on it for "legit" work.

Also the ToneLure bar works wonders on that horn.

Information on the ToneLure is available at:
www.emersonmusical.com

Click on the ToneLure tab.

The Opera Model horn will be fairly bright sounding at soft to medium volumes. I have found that the 51 helps tame that but still be sonorous at loud volumes.
