There are strings that are one octave lower. What are those strings for?

what do you mean?? All strings are used so that you can play a certain note on them, whether they be a low octave or high. An octave is just the same note, either higher orlower. If you have a piano, if you play a middle c, and then play the next c up, that`s an octave. On the violin, the same principle applies.

die Oktavgeige ist in der Tat eine Violine die eine Oktave tiefer gestimmt ist, wäre auch mal gespannt wie das klingt, wahrscheinlich ein bißchen wie Bratsche....

The transaltion: this violin is indeed an tuned an octave lower, than the normal one. I´d be interested how it sounds, maybe a bit like a viola....

Well these strings are one octave lower than normal strings. I wonder what they would be used for.

??????????? What´s the question???? You play the thing along with other instruments and it sounds great. You basicallly play a viola without having to play one... if you don´t need it, don´t know what to do with it...send it to me, I´ve been looking for one!!!!

This maker makes violins that play an octave lower - look under Octave Violins. These strings would be used on such an instrument.

An octave lower is going to take the sound lower than a viola, when you think that the top 3 strings on a viola are the same as the bottom 3 strings on a violin.

Why have such an instrument? For fun, plus I could see it being useful for a teacher with a big class - the teacher`s playing would be an octave lower than the students, and thus stand out when they all played together.
