I'm currently writing out a composition for my GCSE Music coursework and I have a viola part which I just realised I have written out two octaves too low because
1. i was TRYING to write in alto clef and i've never used it before
2. my brains a bit fuzzy so i failed to register that the middle line is MIDDLE c not just a random c
3. i'm utterly daft
BASICALLY i want the viola to be playing in the 2nd octave above middle c but its now written as if its playing below the middle c
Obviously i have to start again but what clef should i use now instead of alto??
the second octive above middle c is pretty high.... for a viola... u would want to use the treble clef, 2 octives above middle c on viola looks like this is treble.
_o (a note lower than that)

[Mainly to see if I can get the "add melody" function to ... um ... function.]
$0.02 from a non-viola-player (so I hope I'm not leading you astray!) – the physical size of the viola's body means that you can't just think of it as "violin-a-fifth-lower" – some of the higher positions are really awkward. Also, because most players aren't "up in the stratosphere" so often, when they eventually do find themselves up there, the results can sometimes be a bit iffy!
In the end I decided that having a viola playing in the 2nd octave above middle C was waaaaaay too high and moved it down to the octave just above middle C which seemed fairly normal.
I can't actually remember which clef I used (probably treble) but my music teacher seemed happy so I guess it was fine :D
