I am interested in buying a cello. I am a beginner. What is the average price of a decent cello for a beginner?

$250 and on,
HA, but the good ones are usually from $1500 and on. The cheap ones sound bad and/or fall apart.

250 thats cheap! My cellos $800 bucks and it sounds crap! The prices can get over 8000. The bow alone costs 1000 for an alright one!

A good bow can only cost you around $200 if you know where to look. If you live in Houston or near Pasadena, a great shop would be Lisle Violin. I bought my bow from them, and dang is it nice.

My cello is factory made, but its extremely well done and I was told by many that it is good enough for a professional cellist to use in an orchestra. Including the bow, and case etc. it costed roughly about £1000

Jesse,
That sounds very hard to believe, unless it`s 100 years old.

I`m thinking about picking up the cello again. I played years ago in middle school. My budget is tight, but I don`t want to get a POS cello. Is there a good middle ground price so that it`s not breaking me but it`s not a waste?

My cello is apparently VERY good. It cost me NZ$3,000 and the bow was NZ$600. If you live in NZ the best place to get cellos (or any stringed instruments) in at Antonio Strings in ChCh. They inport them from all over the world. However if you are looking for something cheaper, u can buy a reasonable cello for NZ$800. I suggest that you take it to someone who knows what they are doing before buying and get them to assess any repairs that might be needed (they can amount up) and also to consider the sound quality of the instrument

I come from South Africa and it`s seriously difficult to find cellos here.. and an `alrgiht` cello will cost at least (converted) $2000 and the better ones go higher than $10 000. So I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any places in South Africa where you could buy cellos for cheaper places?

Try www.cello2go.com
You can mail order from there, or visit the shop directly if you are near Schenectady, New York. That`s where I got my Scott Cao cello 3 years ago. Ellen, the proprietor, is very knowledgeable and helpful. The shop carries a variety of cellos, in many price ranges.
