Hello, bassists! What's the bass for under $500? I play mostly classic hard rock, classic metal, and 90s alternative. I've been suggested a MIM Fender Standard Jazz Bass. Any other good suggestions?

My primary axe for the last couple of years has been a Schecter C-5 (5-string) for $579. The 4-string version is $549. To pull the price down below $500, check out their Damien 5 model at $499 or the 4-string Damien at $449. They also offer other models over the whole range from $349 to $749.
The Damien model is aimed at the metal/gothic genre, with black finish and bat-shaped inlays. For more general styles, the Stiletto Deluxe ($349 4-string, $399 5-string) is really a "best buy." The main difference between the Stiletto and the C-series is the EMG HZ Humbucker pickups and premium hardware

I can tell you an awesome one for under $200!
I have a Squier P-Bass that I bought new for $170. It works great its my favorite bass. The P-Bass works for any kind of music.
