Does anyone know any decent online guitar courses that are free but are still good enough to teach me something.

i doubt an online guitar course will teach you anything, or do you plan on just having fun with the guitar, like most do?
don't they have "Guitars for dummies" at Barnes and Noble?

$0.02 – I'd be a bit wary about parting with money for an online course as such, but why not hunt around for tips on YouTube and similar?
For instance, if you search for tapping lesson (without quotation marks in this instance) – http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tapping+lesson – you get a huge number of interesting videos. Similarly: guitar tremolo lesson ... guitar bar [or 'barre'] chords ... cycle of fifths ... guitar feedback tricks ...
(Of course, chances are you've already exhausted this resource. Q's: what type of music are you interested in; what sort of level are you at right now?)
