My vocal teacher is teaching me to play the piano and i am confused.

It really depends on what key you are in. For example if you are in the key of C major, your thumb goes on middle c, and the rest of your fingers follow one after the other(index on d, middle on e, etc) But sometimes you don't always start that way. Fingering can be a real issue in some songs.
