I don't play any percussion instruments, before I explain what I need, so go moderately easy with any percussion-exclusive terms.

Anyways, I do a bit of arranging for stands music for marching band season and I'm working on a project right now and the snares commonly play while the cymbal people hold their cymbals closed together so the snares can play those as if they were playing a high hat in a drum set.

Anyways, how do I write music like that, that has snare parts with cymbal stuff mixed together in the marching scenario?

easy, simply put the ride pattern (or simply write " HH ride" )with the snare rhythm you want underneath. Or write one (or two for a two measure pattern)out completely, and just fill the rest of the measures with the word "time". any drummer worth his sticks will know what you are after!

So do I do it in a regular 5 line staff or what? If yes, what spaces or lines do I put the snare and cymbal part on. Thanks for the help :D
