I`d get the Yamaha Custom. Selmer has had the hits before, but I find that their new horns are lacking.

ok first of all plz. i beg you. do NOT spend your money on a keilwerth. i would take a keilwerth on the marching band field. If you r wiling to spend time and a could grand. look into some professional selmers. i know u have had some experience with the selmer mk7. and if u liked that try the vintage 1950`s tenor sax. it will cost u about 4-5 grand ez. make sure to try it out first.

Well mate, the tenor saxophones are a little more open
ended than the S and A saxes. If you want a bright and extremely powerful sax, think about the Dave Guardala.
I have one of these and I find that I can really cut through in my 9 piece function band, in terms of competing with trumpets and trombones, etc. One of the top, top choices for a tenor is a Series III Selmer. These are really popular with pro sax players.
By looking at the grade your at - I would reccommend buying a professional Sax. I, personally, would buy a Yanigsawa T991 it is their best model for Tenors (if you want an Alto then buy a A991 and soprano S991). Yani`s 992 range don`t quite live up to their standard, in my opinion.
The thing is with Keilwerth, yamaha etc. is that they are factory made. With Yani`s, however, each sax is specially hand crafted in Japan. All the pro`s buy these, they are more popular than Selmers - and many other sax players, if they really know their saxs will be jealous if you have one of these.
In my opinion - and i have been a woodwind technician for 42 years now - The YANIGSAWA`s saxs always impress me, in terms of sound, tone clarity and crisp clear quality manufacturing. Yamaha`s are only really for beginners. Yani`s always impress and are the most powerful and produce the best sounds especially on the high notes, their clarity is excellent.
If your interested in discussing saxes and want more advice visit my site at www.johnpacker.co.uk or phone 01823 282386.

I`ll be only too glad to help, saxophones are my speciallity.

I own a mk-vii . i may be just 16 but htis horn will play like the wind. it feels so smooth and will go any range on the instrument with ease . The series 3 is ok but for a horn of that age , it kicks some seirious ass . now i want a silver mk-vii. I own 4 saxes and the selmer is best hands down . at my school we have another mk -vii alto ,but my band director boughtit from the school . these instruments are legendary .
