I just saw a topic in the trumpet forums about stereotypes. So, just out of curiosity, what are some stereotypes you've heard about saxophone players(whether it be saxophone itself or a certain type of saxophone)? Please share your thoughts on this.

I think the musical jokes on this website are stereotype-like about saxophonists in general...

bari sax= slow idoitic people, usually fat (or else really small people, like LISA SIMPSON!)
alto= always play too loud
soprano= really squeaky, on t.v. shows usually really big men play it
tenor= usually you see tenors on movies or t.v. either being really bad at it or else standing on a street (usually a black man) and someone walks by and puts a 20 in his case so you see him freaking out in the background...

anyhow thats what i've heard.

Or the fact that a lot of non-sax players think we hide drugs in our cases...

<Added>

Here's what I mean:

Q: Why don't sax players like playing soprano?
A: There's no place to hide your drugs,

Q: What's the difference between a saxophonist and a lawnmower?
A: A lawnmower cuts grass; a sax player smokes it

These were on this site...

<Added>

Those were supposed to be jokes...

although bari is huge and i can stach alot more, tenor makes a better pipe. the loopy part in the bari just dilutes the whole experience.

<Added>

.....*whispers* dont tell anyone...

<Added>

and i mean soprano... what can you do with that?
alto, well, its size, not enough room.

No, my uncle has one and its really fun to play. Playing a straight one feels kinda weird, if youll excuse the wrongness of how this post sounds.

lol!!

My music teacher said he played a straight alto sax. He said it was cool, but it was so long that you couldn't really hear it because the sound was going into the floor.

(That had some pretty wrong-sounding parts to it, too...)
