okay this is not a saxophone and i am sorry but i can't really ask the bassoon and oboe players what instrument do you think is better the oboe or the bassoon. I think the bassoon because i love the sound and becaue it is a big instrument. I really don't like the oboe because it sounds weird and it is a small instrument. Love to hear your opinions on the matter

maybe its just that the loudest oboe play at my school has a horrible tone.. but i'd have to say bassoon
and i know its a horrible tone because the other two don't sound half as bad..
oboe is cool too though. i mean everyone wants to sound like a dying duck sometime in their lives! JOKING!
i still like bassoon, but i have a friend who plays it.

WAIT, WAIT!
oboe is AMAZING in the 2nd movement of RVW's english folk song suite, my Bonny Boy.
i think its bonny, bonney... boney... i dunno but that one.
both are cool, but i'd have to say bassoon cause they're my buddies in low-ness. plus i sit next to them in band and they make me laugh but both are good instruments and sound pretty when played well.
i like the bassoon better a because i might become one and b because it just is a cool instrument. The oboe i just hate its tone and sound it almost sounds i don't corny.
but that is just me

I have a bigginer bassoon player and oboe player in my band
The Oboe has a .... hard to describe sound, but i find it annoying. It's sort of creaky-ish (help? lol). Besides i like low notes better so i'd go for the bassoon (that's only if i had to). Really i'd rather stick with my saxaphone
oboe sort of sounds like something viberating very rapidly (well, not reed like though...)
bassoon sort of sunds like if theres construction and you can hear them because of the low frequency, or if you think too hard.
i'd say bassoon, but they are really difficult not only to play but to hold as well because of their shape. Reeds are also expensive for both. Have you considered the english horn (cor anglais), they sound pretty decent...
good luck
