I've been selectedly for my school's jazz band and I have to play tenor saxophone and I would really appreciate it if any of you can recommend some of the best brands for tenor saxophones. Thanks
Typically, I'm a die-hard Yamaha fan. My alto is a 62-II and I LOVE it. However, if you don't want to spend a large chunk of money on it, go for an Antigua Winds. My tenor is an Antigua and it's actually pretty good compared to a Yamaha. It's always helpful, though, to go to a music store and try some saxes out to see which is more comfortable.
I personally play all cannonball saxes and i have been quite impressed with them. They are a solid horn and play well but to be honest what you need to do is find the horn that suits you.
I love Selmers. They're pricey but great. In my opinion they're some of the best you can get new. Cannonball is another one of my favorites for saxes. Many people (including pros) recommend The Martin tenor as a good vintage. Holton and Buescher are two other good vintage brands.
Some people say vintage is better but I haven't tried enough to know. I say saxes are better when they're cheaper.
