Which Ligature

Hi,
I shall try to explain this, my tutor uses a ligature on her mouthpiece that looks as tho it encloses the reed, but my ligature is just the std that clamps it straight to the mouthpiece. Both of our mpc`s are the ebonite type not metal.
I would ask my tutor but I only go 1 a month and now I have thought of it it is bugging me.

If I have explained this enough so you know what I mean, then my question is what is the difference (playing and sound wise) between the two.

Your different lig`s hold your reed either more closed o the reed such as the rovner lig`s. They are they fabric ligs that reduce vibration in my opinion and give a more controlled darker sound. I use the louis francois lig`s only contacts the mpc in 3 small areas and directly on top of the reed. Give a more open sound and brighter projection. You then have what I think is probably the best lig made I have seen but never got to play one. The Olegature from Oleg products. This man I consider to be the most talented sax technician alive and possibly forever. Check out his stuff at http://www.olegproducts.com/ and see what he has. I have 2 great horns a ref 36 and yani 9930 sop but I will have an Oleg before long.

Hay there, if I could suggest a few ligs for you the best one would be the Vandoren Optimums, but they run aroun $100 which is pricey, but they compress better and have three interchangable plates that fit different styles of music. I can`t remember the other one the name exactly, but you would only want this one if you are only planning on playing jazz without, is the Vandoren Flexible, I think it is called, it gives it a loose laid back feel, they run around $35.

Wow! I really sound like a Vandoren salesman there, just to let you know I am not, I don`t use either of those because I got an old lig for half the rpice that Otto Link makes that was very similar to what the optimum is now, just wanted to clarify that for you.
