I'm just interested to know how you folks take care of your horn. What's your routine? What materials do you use? How often do you clean the interior of the horn? Re-cork? Polish? How do you keep the pads from getting all sticky? Anything you can tell me, really.
Hi
I keep my saxes in their cases because the air naturally spoils the finish after a while if they are left out of their cases. I also wipe the finish with a soft cloth every time I am finished playing them. Also I use large pieces of silk material as cleaners for the insides. I have a string and weight tied to one corner of the material and I pull the material through the chambers to dry them after use. I also put little bits of cork or folded paper under one side of the pads to hold them open so they will dry quickly after use. If a pad gets sticky I gently pull a soft damp cloth between the pad and the valve to clean them. I have not needed to replace pads yet but I guess that would be something best left to a professional unless you studied the process thoroughly on the net and figured you could manage it yourself. The cork for the mouthpiece is easy to replace yourself however.
That's about all I do for my saxes at the moment.
Oh & I also use sax stands
