Hi i`m 16 and have been playing alto and bari sax for 6yrs, and I was wondering if any one could help explain why notes: A B and especially C in the upper registar on my alto make a slight buzzing noise ive experimented with different reeds, mouth pieces and sustained notes, but nothing seems to fix it. Also the buzzing is usually only present when I play loudly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the reeds are not vibrating well or there is something wrong with the neck of the instrument.

This sounds like you have spit in your mouthpiece. Spit can make a buzzing sound by vibrating off the walls of your mouthpiece. Make sure you suck in your spit (i know it sounds nasty, but its the only thing that works) and then attemp to play again. It should work.

You`re reed shouldn`t be dripping wet on the side it is against the mouthpiece. If it is you have to learn something that helps against it.

DEPENDING ON MAKE AND MODEL SOME HORNS HAVE A WEAK UPPER END. IF YOU HAVE A GOOD TECHNICIAN NEARBY TAKE YOUR HORN TO HIM AND GET IT LEAK LIGHT TESTED IN THE NECK AND UPPER BODY. IF ALL IS OK AS SAID DEPENDING ON HORN TYPE A AFTERMARKET NECK MAY BE YOUR SOLUTION GO TO http://www.saxgourmet.com/sgunison.htm AND CHECK OUT HIS SECTION ON THE SAX NECK AND THE DIFFERENCES IT MAKES.
