A friend has an older brass lacquered Elkhart Alto Saxophone he wants to sell. I`m buying it for my son. Does anyone know anything about these? Are they any good? Ser# is 43XXX range. Where were they made?

Thanks.

Depends. Some are very old and intonation not that great. Finger mechanism not as well as a more modern horn. I would recommend having it checked out by a real player/teacher first. Bundy II,
Vito, Yamaha, E.M. Winston, Avoid Jupitor, Buffet are a few reliable choices. Of course there are a lot more but these would be safe bets for purchases. By all means, have an experienced Player (band teacher) check it out if at all possible. If purchasing over net, get a money back guarantee if possible.
