If you put up a picture of it then we could all look and have our opinions, but judging from your description it sounds like a type of fipple flute (I think it's fipple, not sure) which is kind of a flute where instead of playing it horizontally you play it in a similar position as how you would play recorder.

If it doesnt have a thumb hole in the back it might not be a recorder. A picture would help..

probably very wrong in this assesment but 6 holes makes me think its a low whistle (like a tin whistle but in a lower key)...but the hole on the bottom confuses me! does the hole look like it is for your thumb?

I'll try putting up a pic soon and what I meant by the hole being at the bottom is that it is a thumb hole. I couldn't think of it at the time.

I have one! :D
I think it's the same as a recorder minus the seventh hole.
I haven't held it up to a tuner to see if the notes are the same.
But it's amazing, it sounds SO much better than a recorder! :D

It really is not a recorder. It's sure an end blown flute but the fingerings are not the same as on a recorder (however both instruments have a pretty similar sound).

You hold it against your chin so that when you pucker your lips just right, the air will hit the notch. It's a little (but only a little) like making sound with a beer bottle. Think how if you sawed off the part of the recorder where you blow; then you would have to accomplish with just your mouth what the sawed off part (the block and windway) of the recorder was doing.

thats serttainly a flute i have one just like that. yours has a cork right? cuz i can teach you how to play it its easy wonse you get help. trust me. my music teacher gave me lessons and if u can try getting lessons yourself it will all come faster to you that youll ever believe. besides a flute is good to play. i like playing the flute myself.
