basic idea is the title. also been looking at shakuhachi and similar instruments. are there any books or simple step-by-step sites? im not looking to play for zen buddhists, i just want something now that will play a few notes.

This guy is an absolute gem! Here's his video of "Angels We Have Heard On High" ... played on the Big Broccoli Ocarina! (He has quite a few "how to" videos – just apply the principles to bamboo or whatever.)

Slightly off-topic but still interesting (to me at least!): Linsey Pollak making his carrot "oboe" and carrot "clarinet".
