yesterday i wnet to my vocal teacher
i gave her a piece of a song i wrote and my friend played the guitar
a heavy metal song
and she told me it was good but she also mentioned that my voice is better when i sing ballads instead of hard rock
and it made me feel bad cause i am not the one who loves to sing with piano or do a soul career
i love rock and hard rock music and i am also capable of singing those songs cause i'm a tenor and i have 3 octaves range(up to soprno "c")
but she told me that to her i dont look or act like a true rocker who goes wild with the songs and the body motions
and she said i have a soft voice(i take vocal lessons for the past 6 months)
and it made me feel bad about it,and now i dont know what to do
i love only rock music and i cant try to love somthing i dont because of my voice's timbre..

ok then....music should be about what gives you that warm fuzzy tinglly feeling inside...it should be about showing the way you feel though auditory vibrations...it should be about the shiver up your spine feeling (and if your any good that shiver up the audiences spine to). first and foremost sing what makes YOU feel good, cus if your not enjjoying yourselfe up on stage you can bet the audience won't be!!

so this voice coach has got you all stressed about how you should be singing particular genres and what genres suit your voice! she may be right i have never heared your voice so i don't know...but who is she to say that hard rock can't be sung with a soft vocal type, what makes him/her the arbitary rulerer of musical protocol. and hey if hard rock can't be sung with a sweet, soft voice, well then invent a new genre. enjoy your voice, don't stress about it, and sing what makes you feel right (not what someone else says you should be doing)!

hope this little pep talk helped...now get up on stage and show the world how good you are (but make sure that what your showing them makes you smile)!

first of all, i think your singing teacher did a very good thing by telling you that- she was putting herself out on a limb by doing that. however, music comes from your soul and you ovbiously love you gift- so just do what makes you happy and dont give a stuff what anybody else thinks. however, your singing teacher has had a lot of experience so at least process what shes told you a little further. good luck!
