Hi All,
I am currently looking to invest in either Finale or Sibelius. At my university, all the computers are equipped with Finale, so i have been using finale for everything. I have had some experience with sibelius when i was in high school some 2 or 3 years ago, but really can't remember all the aspects about it. So, which do ya'll think is better? Finale or Sibelius?

I tried both, and prefer Sibelius, although I started with Finale.

This is a recurring question ALWAYS. The simple answer is that neither is "better." It all depends on which of the two you are more comfortable using and what you want out of them. The majority of people (I belong to another comp forum where this is discussed very often) think that Sibelius is more user-intuitive. That is, it is simpler to figure out how to do what you want it to do because it automatically does some things for you. Finale, on the other hand, will boast much more control. More specific things and be done in Finale YOUR way than in Sibby. Basically just pick whichever one you are more comfortable with and stick to it.

sibelius is more user friendly than finale. although when it gets down to it finale is alot more versatile but that's with good knowledge of the program. sibelius is alot better for noobs.

I have also Finale installed in my computer. It's true there are many controls needed, I'm becoming tired of going to the help/guide menu. By the way, I'm not enrolled in a college music course, but I have an experience on entering notations on Finale and print them.
But I noticed that in the instrumentaion lists of finale, baritone or euphonium are not included. Pls tell me why. Do you know of other softwares wherein baritone or euphonium are included in the instrument lists when you are to write a score?? thanks.

The Finale you're using maybe does not have baritone and euphonium but you can add it your self. Just use any other brass instrument and change the clef and rename the instrument. I'll be the same. The tuba and trumpet use similiar midi sound. Its just that the trumpet uses a higher pitch with the treble clef while the tuba uses a lower sound with the bass clef.

simply put, Sibelius is arranged in a manner that a newcomer could actually use. Finale, is more complex but once the user has past the learning curve then he will find it to be a more capable program than sibelius.
