i am in 9th grade and i am the only horn in my class (if it helps i am in the intermediate class which is below symphonic(highest) and freshman band (lowest) and i can play the f under the staff to the d above the staff is this any good for only 3 years?
I'm not quite sure if you mean D on the fourth line or D ABOVE the staff, which is quite high for a ninth grader to be going. I'm in eleventh and my range on a good day is full up to C above the staff, so I imagine if you're hitting the D above that then you must be pretty spectacular for a ninth grader.
Twisted, you sound like you're right on schedule! I remember when I was in 9th grade. I had a solo that started on a fourth line D. I played the first note of the whole piece all by myself. I remember I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs about it, too. I was so afraid I'd land on the wrong harmonic. I got it right in the concert. What a relief!

I am no expert, but that sounds pretty awesome, though I would work more on the lower range. But, like I said, I am no expert. You should probably ask your conductor about it.
I am an expert.
You should work on goin gdown to the C below the F you are talking about. (That would be C 2nd space bass clef). As a young horn player hitting the D above the treble clef is very good. Many people may suspect you are not talking about the D above the staff. But as a young player your have the flexibility to do well in the upper range. Be careful, stay flexible and don't use too muc pressure and you can keep it. Many players start using too much pressure and will lose the upper few notes. Keep it easy and don't over blow and you will have it forever.
Is it a good range for a 9th grader? ==== YES=====.
