I want to buy a horn. I'm going to be a senior in high school this year and then it's off to college. I don't plan on majoring in music, so the horn playing would pretty much be whatever I could get in with the rest of my studies.
That being said, I'm looking for a horn that sounds (and looks) good but isn't too hard on the wallet. I did a little bit of research and found that the Conn 8D is a pretty decent horn and that it isn't outragiously expensive.
Since I neither have the time nor means to go all out in my search for a horn, I will be buying mine off of the internet. And, with anything I buy off of the internet, I want to check it over as good as I can before I buy it. So, what would you have to say to someone buying a Conn 8D?

Go to Houghton Horns.
Dennis has an excellent return policy and he takes mediocre Conn 8D's and cleans them up making them sound way better. He has a complete range of prices. You can get a decent Conn for $2500- 3200.
Based on your description of how often you will be playing I might also suggest you consider a Yamaha 668 in nickel.
Conns require learning how to play them you have to make small adjustments this is not a problem if you are palying every day. The Yamahas have a much more even scale and you don't have to iggle and wiggle so much. Generally I have not liked Yamahas myself, however I do like the 668N's, they blend well enough with Conns.
