Hail To The Thief    11:33 on Wednesday, November 5, 2003

The album title, Hail to the Thief, refers to George Bush`s `stolen` election win. The title itself is of course, adapted from the `presidential march` Hail To The Chief. I think, there was an anti-bush book called Hail To The Thief, but dont quote me on that.

Lyrics are dotted throughout the album which can be seen as `anti-Bush` or `anti-Blair`. The Band themselves have never said that the Lyrics, or the title were anti-whatever though.

Finally, a moment or two of free time...    15:23 on Wednesday, November 5, 2003

Louie - I`m really glad to hear about the jazz music stuff! Gah, I almost envy you... In a good way, of course. I`ve never had the oportunity to do anything like that myself, but I can see how great it is... It probably does wonders for your skills.
As for that line from "There there"... Yes, I agree that it probably has some sort of meaning behind it, but I have no idea what it is. `ll look at various Radiohead-related sites... There was one which had practically every song of theirs `translated`.
But seriously, sometimes you get very, very strange things... Like Muse`s `Plug in Baby". Matt Bellamy seems to have hundreds of theories about the meaning of the song, and one of them was to do with genetically-engineered puppies bred for pleasure. WTF?! Still, makes ife seem mor einteresting, I guess.
I got a whole collection of Russian ska a couple of days ago, and, heh, there were a couple of Spiftire songs there, too... I loved the whole thing. Apparently ska is becoming more and more popular now...
As for Leningrad... You know, somehow I have never thought of them as ska. Sure, some of their songs are of that genre, but, GAH... They are simply known as one of the most controversial bands here (one of the EMA`s nominees this year, too), and I`ve always thought of them as rock... But yeah, I guess that your friend does have a point.
Simon - Weeeeeeeeell, the title of the topic is "Rock, punk and grundge", therefore it makes sense to discuss other things, too... Hence the commas and the "and"
As for the "anti-Bush" thingaling... Well, thanks for the info. To be honest I had no idea, so I guess it`s food for thought, thanks.

underground music is good, music you hear on the radio is good, it`s all good, even if you don`t like it, someone else likes it enough to make it popular.
But most of the really good bands out there, are the ones you`ve never heard of, record labels tend to water down a bands music to make it more marketable.
If you want really good music, you need to look to smaller, less well known, perhaps, less heard of or unsigned bands.
Some really good ones include
Dog Fashion Disco
Hellblinki Sextet (www.hellblinki.com)
Estrela (www.estrelarock.com)
Gearbox (www.gearboxismusic.com)
*The Vanity Crowd*(www.thevanitycrowd.cjb.net)
and Born Empty (www.bornempty.com)
but that`s just my opinion, check out these bands, you`re bound to enjoy one of them.

Yea first off two things
1. Punk sucks
2.The bands you have listed aren`t grundge
Grundge bands are bands like:
Pearl Jam (Best band ever)
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
just to name a few. So b4 u go bragging about your favorite bands get the facts straight!

OH MY GOD...those bands are ok...but they really dont rock. Rock music lately has really gone down the toilet from its glory days. Most stuff nowadays sounds so dam regurgitated its not funny. Nothing sounds fresh or innovative, and those bands are just aiming for the mainstream...satisfying moderate rock fans so they can sell more albums. Wat ever happened to bands the likes of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Bush and Faith No More? Nah sorry ive nearly lost faith in rock lately. Where are the issues people???

yes, yes.    07:06 on Monday, April 5, 2004

haha. i SOOO agree, potty. i mean, nirvana, soundgarden, pearl jam, alice in chains, madseason.. they were all called "grunge"; but atleast they sounded different. unlike all of the crap that seems to be similar to each other nowadays. you could buy a CD from a rock group from today, and not have to buy another CD from any other band from today, because they all SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME!
