Canon - Musical Definition


Canon - Piece of music where one voice repeats the part of another, throughout the whole piece.



Examples of use

Dona Nobis Pacem - available in several versions on 8notes is a good example of a 3 part canon. The second part enters after 8 bars, and the 3rd after 16. When they third voice joins all sing together, then the first part ends, followed by the second, leaving the 3rd alone.
