I'm not sure what this guy before me said about lip shakes but it's true that you can move the trumpet but that's like a rookie way. But where he is wrong is that it's with the tounge...it is with the lips the AH E AH E sound...hence the name lip shake

I noticed a post somewhere that you were looking for a better way to do shakes. First, moving your trumpet is the way many people do it. Without moving it though it's all done with the tongue. Picture an old western film where the Indians are running around screaming Ah-ee Ah-ee Ah-ee really fast so it sounds like a fast lip trill. That's the basis of a shake. If you pick up the Walter M. Smith "Lip Flexibilities" book there is an entire section on the lip trill which if followed slowly an correctly should get you up to speed.
