Yep i am in the Marching band and my clarinet is one of the more expensive grenadilla wood clarinets, but if you get a high quality of wood then it won't break so easy, my friend rachels Oboe broke the exact same way. And to play a plastic clarinet is like playing a plastic flute: it never sounds as good as the way its meant to be.
