My grandfather left me a violin that has a label inside with the name of Giuseppe Guinerius on it. Anyone know how I can find out more infor mation about it?

Actually it is spelled Guarnerius (Giuseppe)

The date on the label says 1720.
fecit Cremona IHS with a cross in the upper right hand corner.

wow it`s a really good and old violin then!! you should be proud of your grandpa do you play violin yourelf? i play it for 11 years already, finished 7 years violin course by professional level some years ago.. and i have stradivarrius, violin not that old tho it sounds fine.. is it for chamber playing or solo violin that you have?

I don`t have any idea. I don`t play myself. It is in such poor condition that the glue is failing and it is coming apart. The bridge is missing and, of course, there are no strings.

then you have to restore it immediately. bring it to professionals. this violin will be worth much money. a lot of chamber players need such violins. and you can expose it as well

If that violin is real, then it is worth BIG BIG BUCKS!!!

That would definitely be great! I am trying to find out if it is. If it is real, it needs to be restored by a professional and put on display somewhere. Not something I could do. God knows my family could put the money to good use.
