Can`t play Clarinet

Help! I just got a clarinet and all i get for a sound is a horrible squeak! 
I know that it needs new pads, but i`m pretty sure it`s in alright condition. It`s a SELMER CL300. I`m borrowing it from a friend and it`s really old. The reed is a 3.

Try using a different reed.
Also, you may be pinching the reed- try not to do that.

Get a softer reed. It won`t work to start out on such a hard reed. a 1 1/2 would work much better for you!
